Progress continues on the Penguin Exhibit with the completion of the pool basin and now, the installation of the viewing glass! I can really begin to see how this will look when completed.

The special-themed rock work is due to be installed next week, weather permitting, at which time we should really have a good idea of the final look. I can’t wait for completion and the first “penguin swim”!

Monroe County Parks' crews were busy this week removing trees and other items to get ready for construction. Photo by Kelli O'Brien.

Hooray! The Notices to Proceed have been issued and we are ready to roll. Yes I agree, not the most optimal time to start construction, but we are excited to get the project under way.

So, the clearing of the site has taken place, the fencing is down and tree roots have been pulled up. We have now blocked the pathway off to the baboons and elephants so unfortunately our visitors will not be able to access either of those exhibits. We hope to build a platform or some form of viewing deck to see down into the “crater” so everyone can monitor the action. We know kids like watching diggers and bobcats doing their thing! Stay tuned…
